The relationship between cats and birds tends to be somewhat…uh…fraught in general, but the relationship between the Eni’lef and the birds of the Evergreen Forest is particularly bad, even in relation to that. The birds will leave out no opportunity to screw up an Eni’lef hunter’s plans, as has been shown earlier – and it doesn’t matter if the hunter’s plans are for hunting or for escape, the birds will rat them out in any case.
Even in this case, where doing so required the birds to interpret their definition of Evergreen more loosely than they normally do. It paid off for them, though, since it seems to have gotten the message across to Si’ri. Their revenge for their fallen brethren from earlier is nearly complete. >_>
