Stop hitting yourself! – Chap. 6, Act 4, Strip 67

On the other side of the room, Snuka remains engaged in a rather existential experience, and nobody can say that he isn’t learning things from it.

Trying to overcome yourself might be worthwhile, but as it turns out, it’s necessarily a difficult struggle. Or at least necessarily a long one, since the sides start out so evenly matched. Snuka’s already taken a lot of damage, and the only thing he has to show for it is that Snuka has also taken a lot of damage, as has Snuka.

But in addition to physical damage, at least some enlightment has resulted from Snuka’s struggle with himself – he has finally begun to understand why the whole world likes to hurt him so much. Having experienced the other side’s perspective for the first time, he has to admit, reluctantly, that it’s hugely enjoyable to hurt him, if only to wipe that grating superior expression from his face. That doesn’t make the view from the opposite perspective any more pleasant, of course, but still Snuka feels he can no longer blame the world for hurting him, or at least not as much as before.

If the fight drags on any longer, he might even go a step further and realize that he could perhaps aim to show a slightly less sneering face to the world in future…I mean, as soon as the swelling goes down sufficiently for his face to show anything but a pained expression.

More on Thursday.
