Wot did it – Chap. 6, Act 4, Strip 116

At first I had thought I would have to let Mopey deliver the telling blow to the beast(s) to be able to employ the classic quote. Which seemed to conflict with my plan to have Biff be the one…but only seemed to, because upon thinking about it again, I concluded that from his own perspective, Biff does qualify as a beauty, so as long as he delivers the quote himself, it would work! Even Dapi has his doubts about it, obviously, but Biff hasn’t, and that’s what matters. =D I love it when things work out that way – and they had to work out in some way, because there was no way I would forego using that quote. It directly or indirectly inspired the endings of dozens of great B-movies, so it’s B-movie bedrock.

And, no, the catgirl wouldn’t have qualified in any way, shape or form. She’s kawaii, not beautiful. The difference between kawaii and beauty is fundamental and insurmountable, and kawaii is much farther from beauty than Biff is.*

The quote works even better because there were airplanes involved earlier. They didn’t have any effect, admittedly, but still… perhaps they slighly weakened the monster(s) in some hardly tangible way (they might have gotten on their nerves, for example…or, for sure, actually…), and in the end that made all the difference. Lt. Dapi would be bound to assume it, anyway, since he’s with the air force. Well, technically, he’s with the navy, but submarines…well, they aren’t planes, but they have planes. Dive planes. So…uh…anyway, the quote worked. That’s my story, and I’m sticking with it.

And, yeah, this strip is based on the ending of the 1976 version of King Kong, of course…naturally, since the kaiju is Japanese (in a general sense), his slowing and failing hearbeat isn’t going “thump, thump” but “doki, doki”, but otherwise the effect is the same.

More on Thurs…uh, Monday!

*Although Biff can be kinda kawaii under certain circumstances…I guess he’s somewhere near the midpoint of the kawaii<->beauty axis, in case that helps you in any way.
