Expectation Management – Chapter 9, Act 1, Strip 37

Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition! Amongst their weaponry are such diverse elements as fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency, and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope, and nice red uniforms. Akane and Megumi, though, seem to have fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency, and an almost fanatical devotion to Boys Love fiction, and nice violet uniforms amongst their weaponry…so they’re not exactly the Spanish inquisition, but it’s obvious how Gregory might miss the subtle differences. Especially since his eyesight might still be affected from his recent ordeal in the student council office.

And their methods of interrogation are definitely a lot more effective and sophisticated than the one employed by cardinals Ximenes, Fang and Biggles. By the time we join them in this strip, they seem to have already had a considerable number of preliminary questions answered to their satisfaction, and are moving in on the big one.

Which is one they couldn’t really figure out based on their BL expertise/delusions alone. Conventionally, Mori-senpai being older and taller than Gregory would count in favor of him topping, but Gregory being more masculine and a ‘semi-yanki’ counts against that, so the issue can’t be decided on points alone.

This means they need the answer from Gregory…who, unfortunately, doesn’t seem to accept the idea that the question even exists. This interrogation might have some time to go still, since faulty preconceptions and pronounced delusions on the part of the interrogators are generally very unhelpful in any such endeavor…which, by the way, might be another thing that Megumi and Akane have in common with the Spanish Inquisition.

More on Monday.
