Finally, finally, World War Death is underway!
And, even if the inaugural game doesn’t feature any particularly renowned or popular team…or actually not that much in the way of a proper team at all, on either side…all of the pomp and circumstance called for by the occasion is there. We’ve got a sold-out stadium and an enthusiastic crowd…that looks, like, totally like a typical cricket crowd. >_> And the sound effects are spectacular. Right. >_>
There are visual effects, as well – full-blown fireworks! Unfortunately I couldn’t get it to line up with Biff’s ‘special day’ in the calendar, but it’s still nice. I kept it modest, though, so Biff won’t have to try too hard to eclipse it when his day arrives…if Biff has to try hard, the collateral damage tends to get out of control.
And, look! High above the stadium, the Goodyear airship…no, wait, that only looked like Goodyear at first glance…the airship glides along majestically. Up there it can serve as a camera position, communications relay and mobile villain’s lair all at once. So, it’ll help giving everyone a better view of the game…while still giving the villain a unique and privileged outlook, as he feels he deserves.
The only thing that detracts from the whole effect is that the airship is clearly a blimp, rather than a proper rigid airship. But I got a model for a proper Zeppelin a while later, so in future strips in which the airship appears, it’ll be more appropriate to the villain’s status and the idea behind the whole thing in general. But I didn’t alter this strip retroactively – after all, continuity faults add to the B-movie verisimilitude, so using two different airships to depict the same one on film is just perfectly in-character.
More on Thursday.
