I think Operation Brokeback Climax achieves a major milestone in today’s clip. Successfully initiating a kabe-don between the two potential lovebirds is a big step forward in their relationship…I mean, the relationship they don’t yet know they’re involved in, since they’ve never met before.
And pro-am fujoshi like Mopey and her besties are, obviously, well aware that meeting for the first time is typically the first step in a relationship, and the kabe-don incident comes much, much later…actually usually only after the first crisis in the proto-romantic relationship. So, like, normally step 20 or 25 or so.
I mean, they must know that established and time-honored relationship program by heart – thanks to all of the fanfiction and doujinshi they’ve read. And, uh..the somewhat fewer fanfictions and doujinshi they’ve written/drawn. >_> On the other hand, Mopey was never the most patient of persons, and they have a deadline coming up regarding submission of their team roster for World War Death, so they decided to go for broke and roll the first 25 steps on the program into one single incident.
Which took comprehensive planning, split-second precise timing and a very strong magnet. Nothing too challenging for the likes of Mopey, who knows that drill from many of the Professor’s bizarre experiments. The only minor snag they ran into is that they had to go and needlessly confuse their communications by assigning random code names to everyone and everything involved. Because, you know, operational security is paramount when involved in romance support operations. To show some level of mercy to the reader, I’ve made Mopey lose her code sheet, forcing her to switch to clear communications after panel two. I think that’s a fair balance between the audience’s right to know and the clique’s right to feel like real spies* by using superfluous codenames.
More on Thursday.
*They’re like, Totally Spies rn. =P
