Heisenberg Stadium – Chapter 9, Act 1, Strip 63

Well, I already admitted that there was a slight little problem with Snuka’s magnum opus, and it’s Biff and the Bratessor who cannot help but to but it out. In their defense, they try to do it in a somewhat roundabout way, likely in order to show some respect to dang-near-sacrifical nature of Snuka’s effort.

But there still is no denying the truth: following the plans, Snuka has built a baseball stadium. For a cricket club. Welp.

Fortunately, it seems that it’s a feature, not a bug – at least according to Marumaru. He suspects that the principal might have made this ‘mistake’ on purpose, so the project would result in a stadium that could be used for baseball as well as cricket, the latter based on the same assumption that Marumaru makes regarding the venue-agnostic nature of cricket. And a baseball stadium definitely has more potential for the school – it might even be enough to motivate the baseball club to make it to Koshien, which is the ultimate ambition of every school principal.

I don’t know whether it’s true that the Cricket World Cup was ever held on a Twister mat without anybody noticing. But how would I know, if nobody noticed? That’s what is so convenient about conspiracy theories – by putting elements like “nobody noticed”, “they aren’t reporting on it” or “they destroyed all the evidence” into it, you’re setting a frame that makes it logically impossible to disprove any random lie you’ve come up with. Even if you showed me pictures from every Cricket World Cup ever held, I could argue that once they noticed the little Snafu with the Twister mat, they had all of the pictures from that year retouched to hide the embarrassment.

As for Marumaru’s very finally remark, regarding the 3d model issue…yeah, I’ll own that. =P

More on Monday.

  1. Honestly, so far Marumaru’s been more help to the group than I’d have expected him to be: Getting shit from the Principal for them, pointing out it really doesn’t matter what sort of stadium they use since no one watching this is going to really be an expert on Cricket anyway…

He’s pragmatic and seems like he’s got the sort of practical flexibility of a scofflaw, that sort of attitude of “well, it’s not right, but it’ll probably work, so who cares about the details.”

    1. Yeah, that’s kind of the upside of the scruffy ronin stereotype. If you’re disillusioned, cynical and prone to preferring the easy way you’re falling way short of the samurai ideal – but you can actually get stuff done in an efficient way. And taking a very low view of human nature might not contribute much to your happiness, but it does make your predictions a lot more accurate…

So, yeah, the team definitely benefits from him…there’s just one thing they have to make sure of: they can never allow the ‘easy way’ to be going over their dead and broken bodies, for Marumaru would be liable to take it even under those conditions.

  2. One person building a stadium in a short time? Well, if Age of Empires (and its various derivatives) can do it… XD
