Hardly had I mentioned the possibility that they might never find the Pitch of the Gods, when they proved me wrong by finding it.
And without too much of an issue, all told. A bit of digging, and then having to deal with the obligatory nested containers. And even that was only two levels of containers in this case. This could have been so much more difficult…
Of course this is another moment that would have been completely overwhelming to an archeologist or Egyptologist, the climax of decades of painstaking work…and is much less earth-shaking for high-school cricket players. But, bless their hearts, they do try to instill some degree of gravitas and meaning to the moment. Honest-Abe-kun gives a little introduction, and Mihashi even quotes Napoleon. They were definitely trying.
But then it turns out that the Pitch of the Gods is really just nothing more…than the pitch of the gods. What were they expecting? Well, the other sort of pitch, obviously. In contrast to the preceding moment, this outcome is probably a lot more disappointing to high-school cricket players than it would have been for an archeologist or Egyptologist. They’re pretty used to finding pointless shit like this in containers from ancient tombs…
