Early to Bed and Early to Rise… – Chapter 7, Act 3, Strip 30

Today’s strip contains a very important lesson: choosing the right bed for you is crucial to good sleep, which in turn is crucial to your health and well-being. ._.

And K’ip should start paying attention to this sort of thing – after all, he isn’t a kitten anymore. Cats rarely have trouble sleeping, admittedly, even as adults…but it’s still worth paying attention to. Plus, in K’ip’s case there are some additional reasons to carefully consider his choice of bed:

1., Adult En’ilef are human-sized, ruling out some of the best choices for a standard cat to sleep on, like laptops and pizza boxes.*

2., K’ip lives in a fantasy world, which means that a bedbug bite isn’t the worst thing that could happen to him in bed. In his world, he might very well get bitten by the bed itself.

Still, irrespective of the mortal danger, everyone’s laughing at the end of this strip, so I do rate it a happy one. And since “early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise”, this whole episode should also leave K’ip a little bit wiser (while he is already healthy and wealthy).

Si’ri’s remark in the first panel is another little artifact from the re-ordering of strips around Valentine’s Day, by the way: This strip directly followed the Valentine’s Day strip in the original order, so her remark about K’ip aching backside made more sense. But I left it in, for the same B-movieish considerations I mentioned last time – plus, given the size difference between K’ip and the copper dragon, it’s not necessarily unrealistic that his backside would still hurt two weeks later. =P

More on Thurs…uh, Monday.

* Leaving aside the fact that laptops and pizza boxes are even rarer in a fantasy world than mimics disguised as beds.
