And here’s the second part of the intermission, another unused “back-up” strip, about the same vintage as the other one.

This strip is based on a claim from a poster for AIP’s 1957 movie “I was a Teenage Frankenstein”, sequel to their successful “I was a Teenage Werewolf”. The movie from last Thursday’s strip was likely (and misleadingly) titled “Teenage Zombies” to capitalize on that trend. “Teenage Frankenstein” did not endeveuar to cover nearly as many bases, though – mainly just teenagers, horror and sex. The latter being covered on a level considered pushing the envelope back then, but still pretty tame by today’s standard. Which didn’t stop the New York Times from blaming the movie for the (mostly fictious) epidemic of juvenile delinquency when they wrote: “This is, in one sense, abhorrent. It forces one to acknowledge the impression that such films may aggravate the mass social sickness euphemistically termed “juvenile delinquency.”” Yeah, I’m sure.

If all goes as planned, the new chapter will start on Thursday.
