Reasonable objection – Chap. 4, Act 3, Strip 6

As was to be expected, the intercession by St. Max of Lille did the trick and our friends have escaped their Uranian equivalent of pursuers.

This gives Captain Hawker Valiant sufficient time to mentally step back for a moment, assess all aspects of the situation rationally, and then casually dismiss Mopey’s very important, very reasonable concern. I mean, what else could he do? Accepting the likelihood of Mopey being correct would inevitably suggest some course of action which is markedly different from the course of action that needs to be taken to make the plot proceed. Sorry, Mopey, it’s simply too early for you to realize what’s really going on. The audience isn’t there, yet…at least not according to the producer’s underestimate.

So what was the point of even having that line in the script? I don’t know. I didn’t write the rules on bad science fiction writing, I only studied them from nature.

More on Monday.
