Happy New Year, everyone!
I know it’s way early today, but next Monday would have been a bit too late. And with this kind of thing, I feel that being late is way worse than being early – for, as soon as this kind of occasion is over, you just don’t want to hear anything about it anymore for at least a whole year.
And since the occasion happens to coincide with the blooper reel, featuring an outtake for one of this chapter’s earlier NYE specials was a pretty obvious choice. So here’s the true story behind the 2021/2022 NYE special: essentially just George having a little accident, which happened to provide the perfect footage to represent one of Biff’s holiday-specific little accidents.
George is actually a safe driver in general, and whenever he happens to transport fireworks – which he does with alarming frequency – he even makes sure to put the appropriate warning sticker on the back of his truck. But even the safest driver might happen to accidentally touch the nitroboost switch, and if the truck then just happens to get stuck in reverse gear, which might easily happen, and there just happens to be a pool directly behind it, and the fireworks happen to be the kind that explode on contact with water (why do they even keep making these?), you end up with this entirely plausible chain of events.
Fortunately, nobody was hurt – Vin was pretty safe at the very bottom of the pool, and everyone else* made it safely into the trenches before the disaster. The trenches had actually been created for the shooting of Erich’s masterwork, the WWI epic “Everything Silent on the Northern Front”, but were left in place after that…because it was quite obvious that on this particular movie lot, having an extra set of safety trenches around could never hurt. >_>
More on Monday.
* save for Lee Douglas, that is, but does that even count anymore at this point? >_>
