I wasn’t quite sure where and into which situation I wanted to re-spawn these two guys. I wanted to give them something of a happy ending, but somehow relevant to their established personalities. The obvious choice was combining them with some other pair of twins (as additions or replacements)…but that still left me with a huge amount of choice, since there are so many pairs of twins in popular fiction.
So, yeah…you see were that line of thinking got me. Adding them as brothers 7 and 8 to the Matsuno sextuplets seems like a fitting send-off: the number of potential combinations is immense, even for people with such febrile imagination as the twins. And the Matsuno sextuplets are canonically questionable with regards to morals, so there won’t be any obstacles from that direction. Plus, it’s much more plausible for parents to happen to forget about 2 of 8 kids than 2 of 4, obviously. Especially since they all would have looked identical during the Showa era*.
With that, we can forget about the twins…and we’re probably better off if we do, since imagining in detail…well.
Obviously, though, nothing of this explains what actually happened, but we’ll get there…
More on Monday.
* Due to animation mistakes (or, more realistically, animation economies) there are actually a couple of scenes in the old Osomatsu-kun anime that did depict or implied 7 or even 8 Matsuno sons.
