And another rejected idea I played around with.
My first idea of the twins was the basic one: identical twins that look and act identically to an even slightly disturbing degree. But in the course of development, for a while I considered going the opposite way: identical twins that are as unidentical as the concept will allow: being of different sex and differing radically in size. I would also have given them diametrically opposite personalities in this version.
Obviously, monozygotic twins differing in sex is exceedingly rare, and only one twin being affected by dwarfism of any kind might never have occurred, even if it should be possible in theory. So the chances for this combination are astronomically small.
But it wasn’t statistic considerations that caused me to give up on this idea, it was more that I felt it would be something of a one-off gag. The sheer asymmetry would have been funny or impactful at their introduction, but after that point it wouldn’t really have contributed much – they’d just been a pair of mismatched henchpeople beyond that point, the fact that they’re twins having no further relevancy.
Plus…having the twins look identical saved me a lot of work, since I often had to draw only one of them and then mirror that image. Not saying that that was the dominant factor in the decision, but… >_>
More on Monday.
