Poor Snuka. He was so proud of those stolen wickets. Now they will accompany him to eternity, and some archeologis in the far future will be thoroughly mystified by this never-before-seen kind of grave goods.
I mean, Snuka has been a teenage mummy before…aside from a few occassions on which he wasn’t a mummy, but wore bandages all over his body for other reasons. Still, this is a serious situation. In all of those earlier instances, he wasn’t locked in a sacrophagus.
Will his friends figure out a way to save him? Will the match officials even give them the opportunity for that, before the pressing rules question has been answered? And can that question ever be answered if even a man…bear… uh…Troig…man-bear-Troig-thing with the kind of experience Yogi has, backed up by an extensive library of rulebooks and commentaries, seems to make no progress in arriving at a solution?
Riko doesn’t seem terribly optimistic. Yogi is not the…uh, man-bear-Troig-thing to give up without a fight, but he does admit that his sanity is slipping, and it’s never even been that great to begin with.
In one word…followed by two more, it looks grim.
More on Thursday.
Well, THERE’S your problem right there, guys… you’re trying to solve the *wrong* problem! This isn’t a question of how SCORING works, it’s a third party uninvolved in the Cricket Game taking actions that unduly benefit one side of the game. No different from when an overzealous fan leaps onto the playing field and takes a baseball bat to a star player’s kneecaps, at least as far as the rules should be concerned.
The answer is simple: Write off Snuka as dead, and replace him with a member of the team on Third Base. That way, the score remains the same, the game can continue without further interruptions that annoy the fans, and Snuka finally departs this mortal coil fraught with earthly suffering that he can never seem to escape. It’s the easiest solution that benefits everyone, really.
XD As so often, the simplest solution is the best one! And as so often in fiction, it’s not being applied because it would completely short-cut the plot.
Yeah, it’s true – technically this should count as outside interference or a medical emergency, it makes absolutely no sense that they’re letting the game just go on with a player stuck in a sarcophagus. But that would solve the issue quickly and essentially, which goes against the spirit of being a plot complication.
And while Snuka’s life absolutely sucks, he is still kinda attached to it. He doesn’t believe in a life after death, but he can’t rule it out with certainty. And all religions that have any kind of place like hell pretty much agree that he should spend all of his eternity there, based on performance while alive. So dying could come as a relief to him, but it’s also a definitive risk. Plus, he’s not even sure how to profit of it. xD
Not sure if this is absurdist humour or a commentary on the paralysis of over-reliance on outside sources to make one’s decisions. I’ve seen the latter happen, and it’s increasing in frequency and intensity over time.
Oh, Yogi would be perfectly able to make his own decisions…but after a few, uh, incidents in the past, they’ve actually told him with some emphasis that he isn’t supposed to make up his own rules as he goes along, and should instead rely on the pre-existing body of written rules. Of course, they didn’t really expect any situation like the current one…
