Triple Play! – Chapter 9, Act 3, Strip 35

While Tanuki Kazuya is distracted by pondering the relative lack of drama in his training experiences, the other team uses the opportunity to pull another unprecedented play!

Beelzebusa covers up for Usazawa’s disappearance by replacing him as batter. It’s not a completely perfect disguise, but aside from being much smaller, much pinker and not actually looking anything like Usazawa, he could have fooled me! Meanwhile, Usazawa turns into a cloud* of bats and sneaks to first base. As sneaky as a large group of bats in flight can be, that is, but it’s easier when everyone is staring in disbelief at the pink handpuppet. And finally, Snuka advances to second base and jams a second wicket down the front of his pants, employing whistling strategically to enhance the appearance of innocence.

It’s a perfect triple play if ever I saw one!

(And as you might already suspect, I never saw a triple play. But what I’ve picked up from paying superficial attention to random snippets of sources, it must look at least something like this, right?)

More on Monday.

* the last time I wrote about a ‘flock’ of bats, but I have since learned it’s supposed to be a ‘cloud’ of bats.

  1. This reminds me of Calvinball… where the rules are made up on the spot and the winner is the last one with all his body parts remaining.

    1. I have actually considered falling back on “the score is oogie to boogie” from Calvin & Hobbes once I, inevitably, lose track of the score…

    1. But they would have to fight one of the existing main cast members for the position…fight to the death. The main cast is already too large, I can’t add any more new characters before I get rid of some of the existing ones. XD

      1. Ok, let’s see.
It can’t be Snuka. His misery is a constant.
It can’t be Mopey, she is the only girl in the cast.
It can’t be whateverfessor, he was out for a season already
It can’t be K’ipp because he is new himself.
So it means either Biff or Gregory. They both lost their identity: Biff is no longer the strongest or the smartest, Gregory is no longer undead. They didn’t get much in return, which means they both are expendable.

        1. Well, Biff still has the potential to go back…so, yeah, I would agree it would come down to a fight between Usazawa and Gregory, since they both fill the same niche: Undead-adjacent (ex-)boyfriends of Mopey. Gregory has lots more experience, but Usazawa has a hand-puppet. This could be a close fight! XD
