I just thought I should break a lance for religious tolerance and diversity on BMC…while the Flying Sphagetti Monster plays an integral part in the story due to the connection with Father John Captain McKenzie, I don’t want to come over as one-sided. Not everyone even believes in FSM, after all, and we have to acknowledge that there are other gods some people believe in – for example CEILING CAT, the Invisible Pink Unicorn (panel five, to the left) and Cthulhu.
The worship of CEILING CAT is called CatLOLicism, and still is an emerging religion. Some claim only cats can worship CEILING CAT, but most agree that people can worship CEILING CAT, as well. Other CatLOLics claim that there is no difference between people and cats. For a primer in the basic beliefs of this religion, go here.
The worship of the Invisible Pink Unicorn is a rational religion, since it is founded on both faith as well as logic. Believers draw their knowledge that IPU is pink from faith, and their knowledge that IPU is invisible from logic – since they can’t see her. Billions of people have already not seen the Invisible Pink Unicorn.
Cthulhu almost didn’t make it into the strip, because the stars were wrong. But the stars are right now. Yes, the STARS ARE RIGHT now! Muahahahahahahaha! Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn! Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn! Muahahahaha!
Of all the systems of belief mentioned, Cthulucism has the most concise set of commandments:
1. Cthulhu! 2. Despair! 3. Die. 4. Rot.
