Even in defeat, the Admiral tries to maintain standards. Good villainous form demands that you don’t run away without triggering the self-destruct device. I think we’ve covered that before.
Now, if a whole island serves as your secret base, the associated self-destruct mechanism would normally require a small mountain of explosives, or even a nuclear device – which would hardly count as being environmentally conscious, these days. Remember back in 1883, when Ker Karraje had to evacuate his base on Krakatoa? Average global temperatures were up to 1.2 degrees lower the next year.
Fortunately, the Admiral has found a more effective way to dispose of Aravanadi: he’s using simple hydraulics to remove the stopper from the island’s inflation valve. Not as spectacular as a humonguous explosion, but ultimately just as effective. I wonder why nobody else had thought about that before, it seems like a pretty obvious idea. >_>
