Pile’s Up! – Chapter 8, Act 2, Strip 57

The reversal for the coin-monster thus comes about in the way it practically had to happen: after Biff created a breach in its defenses, the other members of the team suddenly recover enough to pile on and increase the damage.

Because that’s how investors tend to react to the slightest weakness in the market: piling on and increasing the damage. You could almost consider it poetic justice here, or a case of being hoisted on its own petard? Live by the sword, die by the sword? Being too smart for one’s own good? I’m not really capable of telling all of these related, yet distinct, concepts apart – but it’s definitely something ironic along those general lines that applies here. >_>

On a side-note, it’s good to hear Mopey chuckling evily. That shows that everything isn’t lost yet, that somewhere deep below the pink outfit and hair, the frills and the overabundance of hearts, some piece of the old Mopey still clings to existence. And even manages to come to the fore in situations like this, where a finishing move is to be applied – especially, of course, when the enemy is money. Mopey’s always had a fraught relationship with money. Goth fashion is so expensive…

More on Monday.

  1. Evil chuckle is the only reason to play evil character in DnD
The only reason that doesn’t make your friends hate you, anyway.

    1. Yeah, that’s true. Outright “Muahahahaha!” evil guffawing can also feel quite liberating, but it’s only appropriate in situations that involve a lot more backstabbing than your teammates are likely to let you get away with. XD

      1. As a wise man once said “It is better to have loved and lost, than to have paid for it and not like it”…..
