Uptick in business – Chap. 6, Act 2, Strip 20

And thus concludes Act Two of this chapter.

This strip serves multiple functions in that regard, first and foremost getting me out of having to draw an epic battle involving hundreds of colorfully costumed pirates and barely visible ninja. Even if I had used lots of copy-pasting and blamed that on current trends in CG battlescapes, it would have been a lot of work.

The strips second function was providing some more foreshadowing before the third act…while it’s common (though not mandatory) for no kaiju to actually appear on-screen in the earlier part of a kaiju movie, the occasional bit of foreshadowing is necessary, lest the audience completely forget what the movie is supposed to be about.

And, thirdly, I always wanted to have Mr. Dai Nippon appear in a comic. I don’t know anything about the man, but he must be Japan’s most important industrialist, judging by the sheer number of companies in his name. >_> Of course I also don’t know what he looks like, so I went with a generic Japanese businessman design.

As for panel four…well, a lot of people say that manga is unrealistic because Japanese people don’t look like that. But the real truth is, they do – but only for a moment, after receiving a surprising bit of good news…or, in this case, and unexpected order over a suspiciously gargantuan pet cage. XD

More on Thurs…uh, Monday!
