Even More Rational Assessment – Chapter 8, Act 3, Strip 27

There are some drawbacks to having no viable options. Serious drawbacks, in fact.

But there is at least one advantage to it, as well: a complete lack of options makes charting and conducting the decision process much quicker and easier. So easy, in this case, that it was an effort hardly worthy of the twins in their intellectually augmented state. It was still good that they were here to do it, since that added some much-needed structure and clarity to the revelation of this somewhat stark reality. Mopey’s doom-slinging helps with the mood, but since she’s prone to that even in less-than-completely-hopeless situations, it’s simply not as unambiguous as the result of the twins’ sober analysis.

Of course, scientifically establishing the existence of a hopeless situation isn’t actually all that helpful – and really can’t be, by definition. But a somber assessment of a pinch, even without any advice regarding a way out of it, is still something the average business consultant would charge good money for. Or alternatively, stock options, which is a kind of option you can have even without having any options.

Anyway, or rather no way…there’s, quite objectively, no way out of this. Buuuut….naturally it won’t stay that way for long. The plot must go on, after all.

More on Thursday.

  1. I rather enjoy the Firespray design, as odd as it may seem to the standard space ship look. Of course, one has to have a competent pilot…

    1. That design will always have a special place in my heart because I had a toy version of it as a kid, to go with my Star Wars action figures. A birthday present from my brother. =)
