Intelligence gathering (dust) – Chap. 6, Act 3, Strip 13

Well, that little intelligence gathering exercise proved quite fruitful. Some valuable intelligence was gathered: a surprising number of the soldiers on the island seem to have a genetic predisposition toward obesity running in the maternal side of their family. It’s not immediately obvious how that piece of information might be weaponized, but how did Donald Cheney so wisely put it? You go to war with the known unknowns you have, not the unknown knowns you would like to have. Or something along those lines.

And, yeah, when it comes to listening devices, the S.A.S.S. is obviously not entirely equipped up to the state of the art…but the Professor just doesn’t trust these modern, electronic thingamajics those NSA kids have these days. He got that ear trumpet from Benjamin Franklin himself, and it has always served him well….in that it prevented him from hearing a lot of things he didn’t even want to hear in the first place.

And yeah, for the rare cases in which he’s actually interested in what’s being said, he does have a modern hearing aid – unfortunately, that got kidnapped along with him.

More on Thursday!
