The Artist Formerly Known As Nyarly – Chapter 8, Act 2, Strip 141

Uh, it’s the most surprising swerve ever?

Well, perhaps not. After all, Kyubey had a cameo in the last chapter, and the Professorian even referred back to that a while ago in this chapter – so it might have been foreseeable that I’d pull this sort of thing. Especially considering all of the demeaning things I’ve said about Latho’s shape and substance in the course of the chapter, revealing my deep-seated issues with all things plush. Realistically, I’m far to ambivalent about plush to give a plushie shape to a unambiguously positive character…

And, yeah, “Latho” is just Nyarlathotep’s nickname…when both Latho as well as the Universe were still young, it went by “Nyarly” instead, but after a couple of million of years felt that that sounded too juvenile, and “Latho” sounded more mature. It also has less of an obvious resemblance to its full name, making this whole swerving thing easier…

More on Monday.

    1. Don’t worry…come to think of it, I guess I have forgotten to come up with a personal name for her at all. It kinda was sufficient to just refer to/think about her as the evil queen, up to now… XD

  1. This is consistent with Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Which now makes me wonder if Latho tastes like caffeine-flavored cotton candy.

    1. It probably would, but I wouldn’t recommend taking a bite – the caffeine content would likely keep you awake for a couple of weeks. XD (Aside from the fact that getting Nyarlathotep angry isn’t highly recommended in any case.)

  2. I said to kill it with fire when latho was first introduced seriously nothing that saccharine and cute can be anything but pure unadulterated evil.
