Trickbox! – Chapter 8, Act 1, Strip 54

IT’S THE MOST SHOCKING SWERVE EVER! The tiny heart contained many more hearts! Many, many more! And less tiny than the original one – so it’s quite clear that Mopey’s heart was bigger from the inside all along!

Which, frankly, some people have been suspecting, namely the Professor – he just knew better than to ever mention that suspicion of his, especially around the subject. And his high age (he still had back then) and scientist status allowed him to deal with the situation with just a slight, knowing smile at the right moment, without any need for words. One of the privileges that comes with being that sort of wise, mentor-type character he used to be.

Other people would never have suspected it, and will not believe it actually happened, until there is irrefutable evidence. We will have to wait and see whether that materializes.

Mopey, for her part, didn’t suspect it either – or she’d never have laid a finger onto that thrice-accursed thing! As genre-savvy as she can be at times, she’s also a scientist, however, and that’s why she felt a closer examination was both warranted as well as reasonably safe, considering the level of inertness the tiny heart had displayed under strict observation. A more genre/fiction-savvy character would have known that, contrary to scientific expectations, the heart was bound to do something spectacular when touched – precisely because it hadn’t done anything at all before. It’s a B-movie, after all, so “cheap thrill” is a feature, not a bug.

More love on Thursday.

  1. “And thus it was that the heart, long having stopped beating after [NUMBER REDACTED] years of disuse and atrophy, recieved the most supercharged burst of sentiment it could ever have expected from it’s owner: Physical acknowledgement that it existed. Exposure to haptic feedback caused it to attack, exploding with joy and excitement the likes of which it’s owner hadn’t experienced in [NUMBER REDACTED] years…”

    1. Or, as Dr. Seuss would put it “her heart grew three sizes that day”.

But, yeah, it’s quite possible that we’re just seeing the result of several decades worth of love that was produced and then only suppressed instead of being properly disposed off. That sort of shoddiness doesn’t seem to matter much at first, but if it goes on for too long, the possible scope of the consequences just keeps growing… XD
