Slow Thinking For A Fast World – Chapter 8, Act 2, Strip 17

So now that everyone’s completely jacked up on either caffeine or taurine, we’re in for a quick fight. A very, very quick fight.

Which is not to say that it couldn’t turn out to be a long fight – just that, if it does, it would be a very, very quick, long fight. ._. And that’s certainly a plausible outcome, since as far as can be seen, the opposing parties are about evenly matched in speed. But “as far as can be seen” is quite a qualification – for that’s actually not very far at all. ._. They’re just moving too quickly.

Fortunately, Latho is tech-savvy enough to use one of its smartphone’s features to help it make out at least a little bit of what is going on…the obvious drawback to this method being that it will keep Latho falling further and further behind events with its watching. Even now Latho is only seeing what happened a few seconds ago, but if that prediction about a long (if very, very quick) fight should prove true, Latho will get further and further out of sync with the action. There’s no guarantee it’ll even be able to catch the decisive moment before the aftermath will play out…

More on Monday.

  1. Ah yes. The classic “they move too fast to keep up” trick. The perfect way to film a fight scene without filming a fight scene!

    1. Yeah, it’s nearly as cheap as that epic fight scene Nolan had in his latest ninja-themed movie…where the black-clad ninjas were fighting at night. In a coal mine. During a black-out. ._.
